From the Heart of a Brewster Middle Schooler
Middle School Student Turns 20% Project into Act of Kindness
When given the task of completing a 20% project, or “Passion Project,” for her Creative Thinking Class, seventh-grader Isabel Guerra's gesture of kindness reached an ultimate high. The Passion Project is a unique system started by Google to encourage innovation and creativity. To show gratitude to all the teachers at Brewster Middle School, Guerra hand-made beautiful and unique bracelets with inspirational notes attached to them and distributed them during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Guerra made over 90 hand-made bracelets to honor teachers at Brewster during Teacher Appreciation Week. Inspired by her mom, a STEAM teacher who has made a significant difference in many lives, Guerra wanted to create a service-learning project that gave back to teachers. Throughout the week, she witnessed the joy her bracelets brought to the teachers.
“These bracelets are not even half of what teachers go through; they are just small tokens of appreciation,” Guerra stated.
Guerra’s Creative Thinking teacher, Vanessa Coleman, shared, “I was honored to receive one of Izzy’s bracelets, especially because she personalized it with my mom’s name ‘Mercedes,’ who passed away of breast cancer in 2004. Her bracelets made teachers feel special and appreciated. This project opened up her heart of kindness.”
Guerra dreams of becoming an entrepreneur by starting her own jewelry-making business called “From the Heart.”
Classmate Zoe Granter commented, “Izzy took her time to show appreciation to teachers out of the kindness of her heart. I am in awe that she took hours to make all the bracelets.” Another classmate, Arielle Diller, added, “The teachers are filled with appreciation and thankfulness.”
Amanda Floyd, a support staff member, noted, “Gratitude sweetens even the smallest gestures. There is nothing on Earth more to be prized than true gratitude.”
